Which is better on Friday: Jumu'ah prayer in the neighborhood mosque due to the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Whoever washes on Friday and performs ghusl, then goes early and arrives early, and walks and does not ride, and draws near to the Imam and listens, and does not speak idly, for every step he takes, he will have the reward of a year's worth of fasting and praying the night in worship," or going to the cemetery mosque to pray over four or five جنائز (funeral prayers)?

If it is not possible to walk to the distant mosque where the funeral prayers are held, then performing Jumu'ah prayer in the nearby mosque by walking is better than performing it in the distant mosque by riding. This is due to the greater reward of walking to the nearby mosque, as every step towards it is equivalent to the reward of fasting a year and praying at night for a year. This reward surpasses that of attending a funeral prayer, for voluntary fasting is unequaled, and night prayer is better than a funeral prayer. Some of the early Muslims (Salaf) preferred staying in the mosque over attending a funeral prayer, due to the angels' supplication for those in the mosque.
