What is the ruling on a woman traveling alone for two hours for recreation or learning, and what is the ruling on her traveling with a mahram for one person only?

A woman is not permitted to travel without a mahram, whether the journey is long or short, due to the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "A woman may not travel except with a mahram." The presence of a mahram for some women is not sufficient, and this includes travel for the purpose of study. Scholars have differed regarding a woman traveling without a mahram in a safe company for the purpose of performing the obligatory Hajj or for other acts of worship.
