The question

What is God's wisdom in setting general rulings for people—such as honoring one's parents—despite the differences in their circumstances and situations, and cases like dealing with a mother who favors her other children and accuses her son of stinginess despite his kindness?

The answer

The creation of people, along with commands and prohibitions, is for their servitude to Allah and for their testing, so that the obedient may be distinguished from the disobedient. Allah, the Exalted, says: "that He may test which of you is best in deed." Allah does not burden His servants with what they cannot bear, and the motto of the believer is: "We hear and we obey." The questioner is advised to treat his mother with kindness and to remember her many acts of kindness despite her few transgressions.
