Does the commingling of lawful money with unlawful money make it unlawful? Is earning from a project established with money from a usurious loan considered unlawful, even after the loan is repaid? Is marrying someone who engages in usury or establishing a project with usurious loans considered an act of defiance against Allah? Is asking people for help and borrowing money with the intention of repayment when able unlawful?
First: Mixing ill-gotten gains with lawful money does not render the latter unlawful. Rather, only the amount of the ill-gotten gains must be disposed of, and what remains is lawful.
Second: Unlawful money related to one's liability, not to the specific item it was used for, such as an interest-based loan: The project established with it is lawful, and the unlawfulness of the loan pertains to the borrower's liability.
Third: Taking out an interest-based loan and working in an interest-based bank are prohibited. The girl should not accept someone who does not avoid the unlawful. However, if she marries him, her marriage is valid, and she must advise him and forbid him from what is unlawful.
Fourth: Whoever deals with usury while knowing its prohibition has transgressed the bounds of Allah, unless he repents to Him, whereupon Allah will accept his repentance.
Fifth: Begging is not permissible except for three: one who takes on a financial burden (for others), or one whose property has been destroyed by a disaster, or one who has been afflicted by severe poverty attested to by three people from his community. As for borrowing without usurious interest to pay off debt, there is no harm in it.
