If the suitor is a man of righteousness and good character, it is not advisable to break off the engagement. The wife is not obligated to share her salary for expenses unless she does so voluntarily. However, if there is a strong presumption of weakness in his religious commitment or bad character, then it is advisable to break off the engagement, with the importance of consulting wise individuals and performing before making a decision.
