What is the 'awrah (private parts that must be covered) for a young boy and a young girl, and when should it be covered? And when is it permissible for a young boy or a young girl to share a bed with another person, whether a mahram (unmarriageable kin) or non-mahram, or an adult or a child, without an izar (covering/sheet)?

There are no explicit proofs regarding the limits of the awrah (private parts that must be covered) for young boys and girls. However, one can draw inference from the Almighty's saying: ﴿OR CHILDREN WHO ARE NOT YET AWARE OF THE PRIVATE ASPECTS OF WOMEN﴾, and the hadith: "Command your children to pray when they are seven years old."

The Hanbalis hold that: - There is no awrah for a child who has not reached seven years of age; it is permissible to look at them and touch their entire body. - For a boy aged seven to ten: his awrah consists only of the private parts (front and back), both during prayer and outside of it. - For a girl aged seven to ten: her awrah in prayer is what is between the navel and the knee. It is recommended for her to cover herself and her head. Her awrah in front of non-mahram men is her entire body except for the face, neck, head, hands up to the elbows, shins, and feet. - A girl aged ten is considered like an adult woman in terms of awrah.

As for sleeping with a child: - A child sleeping with another child of the same sex is permissible until the age of ten, after which they should be separated, based on the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) saying: "And separate them in beds." - A mature person sleeping with a child: - Boys should be separated from boys and men from women in beds because it can lead to temptation (fitnah). - If a boy reaches ten years of age, he should not sleep with his mother, sister, or any woman, except for his own wife, for fear of falling into what is forbidden. - A boy should not be allowed to sleep with his parents in their bed because he might witness what happens between them. - He should also not be allowed to sleep with an unfamiliar man or woman, for fear of temptation. - The physical touching of an adult and a non-adult without a barrier is forbidden for the adult and disliked for the non-adult. - The physical touching of a man and a woman under one blanket is forbidden, even if no awrah is exposed or if there is a barrier.
