Must a betrothed girl agree with her father's condition to write a deferred dowry (mu'akhar sadaq) of 20,000 pounds, while the suitor believes that the list including furniture and the bride's necessities is her right, and he refuses to write the deferred dowry?

The dowry is a pillar of marriage and an obligation, based on the Almighty's saying: "And give women their dowries with a good heart." Anything the husband gives to the wife, whether money, gold, or furniture, can be considered a valid dowry if agreed upon, and it is not necessary to have a deferred dowry. If the woman agrees that the furniture list be her dowry, there is no objection. It is her right and her guardian's right to request a deferred dowry in addition to the furniture list. The prescribed approach is to lighten and facilitate the dowry. Therefore, the father's request for a deferred dowry is permissible, but it is preferable to facilitate the dowry and to be content with what the husband offers, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The best dowry is the easiest." The daughter's agreement with her father is more appropriate if it is for a legitimate purpose.
