Amir ibn 'Abdullah al-Tamimi al-'Anbari al-Basri, whose kunya was Abu 'Abdullah, and it was also said Abu 'Amr, was an ascetic and a reciter, one of the great Tabi'in. He learned the Qur'an from the Companions he met. He used to complete the recitation of the Qur'an, pray at night, and fast during the day. He was renowned for his piety, asceticism, and extreme devoutness. He was keen to serve his companions during travels and would give his charity to those in need.

It was said about him that he was the monk of this Ummah, and it was also said that he used to perform a thousand rak'ahs daily.

He died during the time of Mu'awiyah, and it is said that his grave is in Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem).
