Is it considered sound thinking that the noble verse: "And do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [various] kinds of them - the splendor of worldly life - that We may test them thereby. And the provision of your Lord is better and more lasting," applies to my situation of looking at a woman who displays her adornment, and that this thinking necessitates rejoicing in the provision of Allah in this world and the Hereafter?

Allah has commanded believers to lower their gaze and guard their chastity, and He has forbidden approaching unlawful sexual acts, because the forbidden gaze leads to them. A Muslim must lower his gaze from women who display their adornments and repent to Allah.

Since women are from the adornments and provisions of this world, and a woman can be a provision for her husband and a trial for him, one should not covetously look at them; because that leads to despising Allah's blessings and to dissatisfaction with divine decree and destiny.

The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "Look at those who are beneath you, and do not look at those who are above you; for that is more likely to prevent you from despising Allah's blessing upon you."

Furthermore, Allah has forbidden extending one's eyes towards the fleeting adornments of this world, because Allah's provision is better and more enduring.

A servant must seek what is with Allah, thank Him for what He has given, ask Him for more of His bounty, and not covetously look at what others possess out of envy or longing.
