What is the ruling on distorting the greeting of Islam, such as saying "Salamz" or "Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatu Allah wa Barakatuh" instead of "wa Barakatuhu"?

If the questioner means by "distortion of the Islamic greeting" a change in the script by adding many prolonged letters (harakat), then it is better to avoid that so as not to cause confusion to the reader, although there is no harm in it. However, if the intention is to alter its wording, then that is not permissible because the wording of this greeting is mentioned in the Shariah and it is not allowed to distort it, just as it is not permissible to begin the greeting with anything other than peace (al-salam).
