Is it permissible for a married young man to leave his father's house, knowing that his father has commanded him to pay monthly expenses and has threatened to disown him should he leave, this being in order to avoid family problems and to be closer to his place of study?
There is no objection to a mature, adult son living separately from his parents, and he has the choice to reside wherever he wishes. A husband is obligated to provide his wife with an independent dwelling. The financial support of impoverished parents is obligatory upon their capable children, and the wife's maintenance takes precedence over the maintenance of other relatives. If the father is in need of money and you are able to give it to him without harm, then it is obligatory for you to give it, provided that it does not burden or harm the son. However, if the father is not in need, you are not obligated to give it to him, but it is commendable to be benevolent towards him in a way that does not harm you.
