Is it considered an act of disobedience (ʿuqūq) for a son to tell his mother that her refusal to let him join the Islamic university causes him anxiety and sorrow, and that if she feels sad because of this, she would have harmed him and been disobedient to him, knowing that his intention is to make her aware of his suffering?

The son's informing his mother of his desire to travel for study is not an act of disobedience to her. He should be gentle with her and try to persuade her. If she does not agree, he may study and travel without her permission, unless she is in need of him. Obedience to her is not obligatory in this matter because there is no harm to her in it, nor is there any benefit to her if he refrains from it. However, it is preferable to try and persuade her and not to travel except with her permission.
