To what extent is it true that God created us to worship Him, not to accumulate worldly possessions and wealth, and how can a person find peace of heart and respond to people’s curious questions about owning homes and marrying off children, especially with financial pressures and the difficulty of owning a home?

People were created for worship, but this does not mean abandoning earning a livelihood. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, encouraged earning a living and for a person to eat from the labor of their own hands. This was the guidance of the Prophets, the Companions, and the scholars. The Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to trade and farm. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, clarified that striving for one's family and oneself is one of the paths of Allah.

Allah has excused those who travel for the purpose of earning a livelihood, and He equated the rank of those striving [in His cause] with those earning lawful wealth, which indicates that earning money is akin to striving [in Allah's cause]. As for some people asking about financial situations, one should have a good opinion of them, and that the abundance or scarcity of wealth is not a measure of happiness or a person's standing with Allah, for Allah's giving and withholding are trials and tests.
