Is it better for a Muslim to pray for wealth so that they may spend it in obedience to Allah, citing the hadith "There is no envy except in two [cases]" and the hadith "Indeed, the world is for four types of people," or to pray for their provision to be sustenance, as stated in the supplication of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "O Allah, make the provision of the family of Muhammad just enough"?

There is no harm in asking Allah for abundant wealth, as it is a grace and worldly good, as indicated by religious texts such as His saying, the Most High: (And ask Allah of His bounty) and His saying: (Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good), and the prayer of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, for Anas: (O Allah, increase his wealth and offspring). Abundance of wealth is not inherently blameworthy; rather, superiority is by piety. Righteous wealth for a righteous person is praiseworthy if he acquires it lawfully and does not intend by it accumulation, but rather seeks to suffice himself and his family, assist others, and spend in good causes. Whoever fears the temptation of wealth and perceives weakness in himself, and therefore seeks sufficiency and safety, is also on good. And wealth becomes blameworthy for whoever it leads into misguidance and distracts him from the remembrance of Allah.
