Does a child inherit from his grandfather during the lifetime of his father, who is the son of the grandfather?

The grandson does not inherit from his grandfather if the grandfather’s direct son is present, because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said concerning the 'Asabah (agnate heirs): “Whatever remains is for the closest male.” And the son is closer than the grandson.
