Is it permissible to supplicate for the Companions and the Successors by name, despite their piety?

Allah Almighty praised the believers who came after the Companions for their praiseworthy qualities, among them their supplication for the Companions and for those who preceded them in faith, citing His verse: "And those who came after them say, 'Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith and do not place in our hearts any malice toward those who have believed. Our Lord, indeed You are Kind and Merciful.'"
