Is a wife's holding onto her husband by his clothes and refusing to release him unless he divorces her, followed by her continuous demands for divorce and agitating the neighbors upon his return, considered coercion of the husband into divorce out of fear of scandal and loud arguments?

The divorce of a person under duress is not effective if the legal conditions for duress are met. However, a wife's insistence on seeking a divorce and her holding onto her husband's garment is not considered compelling duress. Therefore, the husband's divorce in this situation is considered valid. It must be noted that it is not permissible for a wife to seek divorce without a legitimate religious excuse, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Any woman who asks her husband for divorce without any [legitimate] cause, the scent of Paradise will be forbidden to her."
