The meaning of fitra in the hadith "Every child is born upon fitra" has been a subject of differing interpretations among scholars, but the general meaning is similar: every child is born prepared for Islam and the acceptance of truth, and the goodness of this religion is inherent in souls. Humans deviate from it due to human afflictions like blind imitation.

Fitra is the characteristic with which a creature is endowed at the beginning of its creation. It is the human predisposition to accept religion, or it is the innate disposition prepared to accept religion, or what Allah has instilled in humans of their capacity to know faith.

Every child is created prepared to accept Islam, for the religion of all prophets is Islam.
