The question

Is the circumambulation (tawaf) of 'Umrah, Hajj, and the Farewell circumambulation considered valid for someone who turned away from the Kaaba during the circumambulation out of ignorance that this invalidates the circumambulation, and is he excused by ignorance?

The answer

Mere turning during the circumambulation (Tawaf), as long as the Kaaba remains on the left of the circumambulator, does not invalidate the Tawaf, even though it is recommended not to turn without need. Turning the face and looking right, left, and behind does not invalidate the Tawaf, but a condition for the validity of the Tawaf is that the circumambulator keeps the Kaaba on their left throughout all rounds. Whoever fails to do so in any part of the Tawaf must repeat it. Doubting whether the Kaaba was kept on the left after finishing the Tawaf does not affect its validity.
