How is the Fajr prayer performed after dawn, silently or audibly?

Scholars have unanimously agreed on reciting aloud (jahr) in the Fajr (Dawn) prayer if it is performed within its prescribed time before sunrise. However, if it is made up after sunrise, there is a difference of opinion, and the more apparent view is that it should be recited aloud because a make-up (qada') prayer emulates a timely performance (ada'). Supporting this is the agreed-upon hadith of Abu Qatadah regarding the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions sleeping through the Fajr prayer and performing it after sunrise. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed the morning prayer and did as he did every day, which may be used as an argument for reciting aloud in a made-up Fajr prayer.
