What should a girl do who is attracted to a mosque imam, a Hafiz of the Quran, when she thinks he is in love with another woman from one side, and should she approach him about this matter or not?
The actions of a young woman should be interpreted favorably. It is not permissible to consider her self-admiration as a reason to reject suitors. The young woman is advised not to be deceived merely by a man's religiosity and memorization of the Qur'an. Rather, she should inquire about him from trustworthy individuals to ascertain his suitability, while not paying attention to speculative statements from which she might infer his poor religious commitment or character. If it becomes clear to her that he is among the people of goodness and righteousness, then there is no harm in her proposing marriage to him, while observing proper Islamic etiquette. Caution must be exercised against engaging in a romantic relationship before marriage, and the importance of performing Istikhara (prayer for guidance) should be emphasized.
