Acrobatics (Sha'wadhah) refers to acrobatic performances from which one perceives things that have no reality, similar to magic. This is achieved through the arrangement of mechanical devices, sleight of hand, and the use of properties of certain medicines and stones. Scholars have unanimously agreed on the prohibition of this profession and its consequences. The testimony of those involved in it is not accepted because it is either magic or falsehood. Receiving or giving payment for it is forbidden, and its practitioner should be punished. It shares the same prohibition as magic, and selling books related to it is void, as there is no permissible benefit in them. Therefore, acrobatics—whether in teaching, practicing, receiving payment for it, or giving payment for it—is forbidden.
