What is the ruling on one who bought an Udhiyah while in debt, and intended not to sell it, but it died before he could sell it?

The Udhiyah (sacrificial animal) is a confirmed Sunnah for the capable, and it becomes obligatory through a vow or designation. If the designated Udhiyah dies without negligence on the

part of its owner, who is in straitened circumstances, then he is not obligated to replace it, due to the absence of the condition for obligation, which is financial ability, just as if the object of the obligation were to perish. However, if he himself destroys it or is negligent in preserving it, then he must pay its value on the day of destruction or provide an equivalent.
