Where should a worshiper's gaze be directed when raising hands for supplication during Witr prayer: towards the place of prostration, towards the hands, or straight ahead? And is raising the hands for supplication or scratching a part of the body with the hand during the Friday sermon considered among the forbidden idle talk?

It is recommended by some scholars for a worshipper to look at the place of prostration, while others specify this only for the standing position.

As for the Qunut supplication during Witr, the worshipper chooses what is more conducive to khushu' (devotion), whether looking straight ahead or at the place of prostration.

Raising the hands during the khutbah (definition) (sermon) is not legislated. However, if it is between the two parts of the khutbah, some scholars have permitted it, and it is not considered laghw (idle talk or action).

As for scratching the body without need, it is a form of abath (futility or playfulness) that falls under the forbidden laghw during the Friday sermon. Its meaning is: every dispraised falsehood or that which is not considered valuable, whether speech or other actions, and from which no benefit is derived.
