What is the reason for my current state of forgetting the Qur’an and scholarly texts, of self-admiration, followed by self-contempt and loathing? What is the way back to the happiness I once had, and how can I make all my deeds for the sake of Allah? Is defending the religion obligatory only upon scholars?
Perhaps the reason for the distance from Allah is self-admiration and looking down upon Muslims. One must start a new page and return to Allah, for His door is always open, and whoever draws near to Him, Allah draws nearer to him even more. Rid yourself of sins and return to acts of obedience, memorize the Quran, seek knowledge, associate with the righteous, and seek help through supplication. Strive sincerely against your lower self, for Allah helps those who strive for His sake, as He Almighty says: "And those who strive for Us - We will surely guide them to Our ways." Defending the religion is not solely the duty of scholars; rather, it is the duty of every Muslim.
