How can one overcome the despair of life, severe self-reproach, and feelings of guilt after straying from memorizing the Qur’an and committing sins? What is the way back to obedience and feeling Allah’s pleasure and peace of mind, especially given the deterioration of one's psychological and academic state, and the struggle with negative thoughts related to divine decree and predestination, as well as intrusive whispers (waswasa)?
There is no escape from worries except through piety towards Allah, and this includes sincere repentance; for Allah loves those who repent, rejoices in their repentance, forgives their sins, and transforms their bad deeds into good ones.
One should have a good opinion of Allah, supplicate to Him, beware of despair and hopelessness, and seek help from Him alone.
It is recommended to have righteous companionship, to engage with the Qur'an by reciting and contemplating it, and to refer to books on spiritual edification (Raqāʾiq).
As for breaking the fast with masturbation, it does not necessitate expiation according to the majority of scholars, just as many of them believe that the fast of one who committed an act that breaks the fast out of ignorance is not invalidated.
As for prayers and fasts intentionally missed, the majority of scholars believe that they must be made up, while others (like Ibn Taymiyyah) believe that making them up is not obligatory. One may adopt the easier opinion when there is a need and difficulty.
