What is the ruling on placing symbolic pictures of celebrities – who are often non-Muslims – on social media covers, and what is the ruling if they appear in an objectionable manner in that picture?

It is permissible to post photographic images of people on social media platforms, unless the image itself is forbidden for another reason, such as the impermissibility of looking at it. If the person in the image is well-known for goodness and righteousness, there is no harm in posting their pictures, especially if there is a need for it. As for images of disbelievers and transgressors, such as singers and the like, it is not permissible to post them, because doing so is a celebration of them and a promotion of their evil. The prohibition is further emphasized if the image includes something forbidden. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Consult your heart and consult your soul. Righteousness is that with which the soul feels tranquil, and sin is that which wavers in the soul and causes uneasiness in the chest, even if people give you a ruling and give you another ruling."
