Is it permissible to use ruqyah written with amber ink, containing Quranic verses, by drinking and washing with it, while having doubts about the belief of its writer?

It is permissible to write ruqyah verses or their supplications on a paper, then wash it and drink its water or bathe with it. Imam Ahmad and Ibn Taymiyyah did this, while many contemporary scholars deem it preferable to avoid it as a preventive measure (sadd al-dhari'ah).

One should be keen on a raqi (one who performs ruqyah) characterized by sound belief and uprightness. It is permissible to seek ruqyah from someone whose benefit has been experienced, even if they are innovators (ahl al-bida') or sinners. Furthermore, the majority of scholars permitted seeking ruqyah from a disbeliever if one is certain that their ruqyah is free from polytheism (shirk). Al-Shafi'i cited as evidence the hadith of Abu Bakr entering upon Aisha while a Jewish woman was performing ruqyah on her, whereupon Abu Bakr said: "Perform ruqyah on her with the Book of Allah."
