Is the anxiety associated with lack of sleep and its accompanying symptoms a trial from Allah or an evil eye? Should one resort to a psychiatrist? What is the ruling on increasing the dosage of the tranquilizer Xanax, which is used without a medical prescription, and does it have side effects with prolonged use? How can one get rid of it and return to natural sleep?
We advise you, after fearing Allah and observing the obligatory duties and increasing in supererogatory acts of worship and charity, to frequently supplicate and seek refuge in Allah, humbling yourself before Him during times when prayers are answered, and not to despair. For Allah the Almighty said: "And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be rightly guided." As for the use of tranquilizers and their dosage, ask specialists among doctors and pharmacists, and be assured that Allah has not sent down a disease but that He has sent down a cure for it, and that whatever pain, illness, or sorrow befalls a Muslim, Allah expiates his sins thereby.
