The question

Is the salary received by the general manager of a commercial market, which includes shops that sell alcoholic beverages constituting 5% of the market's income, lawful (halal) or unlawful (haram), knowing that the partners' income is solely from renting out the shops and they do not receive a percentage of what is sold within them?

The answer

Renting out shops for selling alcoholic beverages and other prohibited items is forbidden because it constitutes cooperation in sin and aggression, as Allah states: "And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression." Furthermore, the Prophet (peace be upon him) cursed everyone who assisted in the trade of alcohol in any way.

As for the questioner's work in managing a market where alcohol is sold, it is permissible, provided that he does not directly engage in any work that aids in the prohibited, such as concluding contracts or collecting rent for shops that sell prohibited items.

A Muslim must enjoin good and forbid evil to the best of his ability.
