What are the rulings regarding purification from urine and feces for a person afflicted with obsessive-compulsive disorder (waswas), and what is the ruling on using wet wipes for that purpose, and what is the ruling on contaminated water spray in the bathroom?
We have previously explained the remedy for intrusive thoughts (waswasah) in earlier fatwas. As for water falling on the bathroom floor, please refer to Fatwa No. 49038. Washing the private parts with soap is an exaggeration and a form of waswasah, and one must beware of indulging in it. It is sufficient to remove impurities with water, or by using stones (istijmar), or with a tissue or the like if the impurity has not spread. A person is not required to have absolute certainty of the purity of the exit point, but rather a strong presumption (ghalabat al-dhann) is sufficient.
