What is meant by the garment of piety for men?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Allah mentioned two types of clothing: the necessary, for covering the visible nakedness (awrah), and the complementary, for adornment, which is like feathers (al-reash). Just as a person is commanded to cover their nakedness and adorn themselves, they are also commanded to wear the garment of piety (libas al-taqwa), which is better than visible clothing, as Allah Almighty said: "And take provisions, for indeed, the best provision is righteousness (taqwa)," and "Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you (atqakum)." Piety is performing commands and abstaining from prohibitions, and whoever adorns themselves with it has achieved the greatest desired goal. This applies to both men and women.
