Must a woman perform ghusl for prayer if her menstrual bleeding has ceased for a full year, and occasionally a few drops of blood are discharged?
If the wife sees a small amount of blood during the forty-day period after childbirth, it is considered nifas (postnatal bleeding), and she must repeat the prayers she performed without ghusl (ritual bath). As for the blood she sees after the forty-day period, there is a difference of opinion among scholars: the majority of them believe that the minimum duration for menstruation is one day and one night, so she is not required to perform ghusl from these blood specks, and it is considered dam fasad (irregular bleeding). However, Malik and Ibn Taymiyyah hold the view that there is no minimum limit for menstruation, and therefore this blood is considered hayd (menstruation) and necessitates ghusl after its cessation. This latter opinion is more cautious.
