Is it permissible for a woman to perform Hajj on behalf of her father?

It is permissible for a woman to perform Hajj on behalf of a man, as indicated by the Sunnah. A woman from Khath'am came and said: "O Messenger of Allah, the obligation of Hajj enjoined by Allah upon His servants found my father a very old man who cannot stay firm on a riding beast. Shall I perform Hajj on his behalf?" He said: "Yes." This is the view of the majority of scholars. Only Al-Hasan bin Salih dissented, and Ibn Al-Mundhir commented on this difference of opinion by saying that it was an oversight regarding the apparent meaning of the Sunnah.
