What is the religious ruling on the stance of a wife who seeks divorce from her husband after 11 years of marriage without a substantive reason, and the stance of her father who supports her in this, despite the presence of children and the husband's attempts to mend the relationship?

What a wife does in terms of defiance (nushooz) and disobeying Allah's command to obey her husband is an act of ungratefulness towards her companion (kufrān al-ʿashīr). Her seeking divorce without a valid Shar'i justification is a grave sin that will deprive her of the scent of Paradise. The father who assists her in this shares her sin and falls under the threat: "He is not one of us who incites a woman against her husband." We advise the wife to fear Allah, treat her husband well, and abandon defiance and seeking divorce unless there is a valid Shar'i reason, such as disliking her husband and being unable to uphold Allah's limits with him. In such a case, it is permissible for her to seek divorce, and it is sunnah for the husband to grant it. We also advise the wife's father to fear Allah and cease assisting his daughter in defiance and divorce.
