Is a father allowed to prevent his son from permitting his wife to visit her family if she visits them once a year, and to threaten him with not returning home if she does so, knowing that the dispute is between the son’s wife and the son’s sister?
The husband's father does not have the right to prevent his son's wife from visiting her family, and she is not obliged to obey him in this regard. However, if her husband prevents her, then obedience to him is obligatory according to the majority of scholars, because the husband's right is more emphasized than the right of the parents. Nevertheless, it is recommended for the husband not to prevent her unless he fears corruption or similar issues. The father's forbidding his son's wife from returning to her husband's house is invalid, as he has no authority over her. The husband is advised to observe his father's right in a way that does not conflict with his wife's right, the father is advised not to be oppressive, and the wife is advised to obey her husband.
