What is the ruling on someone who vowed to fast one day each month, then in some months fasted more than one day and made up thereby for the months in which he did not fast? And what is the ruling on eating fox meat?

Fulfilling a vow to fast one day each month is obligatory. If missed without an excuse, it must be made up, and there is sin. If missed with an excuse, it must be made up, and there is no sin. Scholars differed regarding eating the fox. Abu Hanifa and Ahmad forbade it because it is a beast of prey. Malik disliked it. Al-Shafi'i, Tawus, and others permitted it because it is game. The most preponderant opinion is that it is permissible to eat, because even though it has fangs, it is not one of the common beasts of prey that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade eating. It is like the hyena.
