What is the ruling of the Shari'ah concerning a husband who spends generously on his family and daughter, yet reminds his wife of his favor when giving her anything, prevents her from visiting her family while allowing his family to visit her, abandons her in bed, and justifies this by saying she has become thin and does not adorn herself for him, despite the wife knowing she possesses nothing with which to adorn herself?

A husband must financially provide for his wife equitably, without harming her or reminding her of his favors. He must treat her kindly, avoid abandoning her in bed without a valid excuse, and ensure her chastity to the best of his ability and according to her needs. If a husband wishes his wife to adorn herself for him, he must provide her with the means to do so. The preponderant opinion is that a husband should not prevent his wife from visiting her family unless he fears they might corrupt her; in such a case, he may prevent her to the extent necessary to remove the corruption. The wife is advised to discuss the matter with her husband and explain his obligations. If he does not respond, she should seek the intercession of righteous individuals to speak with him about it.
