Is the story of the Companion "Karkara," who died as a martyr, and of whom the Prophet (peace be upon him) said he was among the people of the Hellfire because he stole a cloak from the spoils of war, authentic? If it is authentic, is it permissible to give charity on his behalf with the intention of alleviating his suffering, knowing that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stated that he is in the Hellfire?

Al-Bukhari narrated that a man named Kirkirah was in charge of the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) baggage. When he died, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "He is in the Fire." They then found a cloak that he had embezzled. This does not mean he will abide eternally in the Fire. Rather, he will be punished for his sin, unless Allah forgives him. He is among the disobedient Muslims for whom it is permissible to give charity, and they will benefit from it, by Allah’s permission.
