Is what the questioner does, repeatedly and excessively washing the parts of ritual impurity (janabah), considered correct or an extravagance that takes a long time?

What you were doing regarding ghusl (definition) (ritual bath) involved exaggeration and over-complication. Spending a full hour on ghusl and repeatedly washing the male organ for 20 or 30 minutes constitutes extravagance in water and soap, and a waste of time, which is forbidden in Islamic law. Imam An-Nawawi said: "Scholars have unanimously agreed on the prohibition of extravagance in water, even if one is on the seashore."

It appears that your past ghusl was sufficient. However, we advise you in the future to perform the complete ghusl in a correct manner, and this will only take a few minutes. It is sufficient for you to use water alone. If you wash with soap after using water, there is no harm in that. Ibn Baz said: "It is sufficient, there is no harm in it. But there is no need for soap; water is enough. If you use soap, there is no harm, but the soap must be washed off with water until it is removed and the water reaches the skin, and the entire body is covered with water for janabah (definition) (major ritual impurity)."
