A woman or her guardian may propose marriage to a man of good character and religious commitment, even if it is through the internet or phone, provided that the Sharia-compliant guidelines are adhered to: such as the presence of a mahram (unmarriageable kin) whose presence eliminates temptation, limiting speech to what is necessary, avoiding a seductive tone, and not displaying one's image. Caution should be exercised against being lured by malicious individuals, and the matter should be entrusted to one of her mahram relatives or shared with wise female relatives.
