The answer

Poverty is a calamity with negative effects on belief and behavior, and it can even lead to killing children out of fear of poverty or because of it. Islam has brought solutions to combat poverty, including: teaching people that sustenance is in the hand of Allah, seeking refuge with Allah from poverty, encouraging work and earning, making zakat obligatory on the wealth of the rich, encouraging charity, endowments, and sponsoring orphans and widows, prohibiting usury, gambling, and deceit, and encouraging assistance to the needy. A Muslim is required to strive to alleviate poverty from himself and his family, and if he is unable, Islam guarantees him his right from zakat and sadaqat (charity).
