Does a female slave become free if her master marries her?
Scholars have agreed on the impermissibility of a master marrying his female slave, because the bond of ownership is stronger than the bond of marriage, and it provides what marriage provides and more. So, if a man were to own his slave wife, or a woman were to own her slave husband, the marriage would be dissolved.
If a man wishes to marry his female slave, he must first emancipate her, and then marry her, based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "There are three who will have two rewards: ... and a man who had a female slave, so he disciplined her well, and taught her well, then he freed her and married her; he will have two rewards."
