Is it permissible for a father to forbid his daughter from completing her education, and does a husband's triple divorce of his wife take effect if their daughter completes her education?
If the father of the girl believes that her welfare lies in not continuing her studies, then it is not permissible to disobey him. It is also not permissible for the father to swear an oath by divorcing his wife. If he does, and the daughter continues her studies, then the wife is divorced according to the four Imams. Ibn Taymiyyah, however, holds the view that the divorce does not occur if the intention was to rebuke and prevent, and an expiation for breaking an oath becomes obligatory.
