Is it permissible to evade the imamate and present another person, after the worshiper had been an imam for years and stopped due to circumstances and tribulations that caused some worshipers to refrain from praying behind him because of his participation in elections, and now those who remained among the worshipers are urging him to return to the imamate?

If you are the most deserving of leading the prayer (Imamah), then it is better for you to step forward and not evade it, in accordance with the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "The one who is most knowledgeable of Allah's Book should lead the people in prayer." Nevertheless, there is no sin upon you for refraining if the one who takes your place fulfills the conditions of Imamah, because the matter is a recommendation, not an obligation. In this case, there is no dislike (karahah) in the less superior person leading the prayer due to the permission granted.
