Is it permissible for a traveler to lead residents in prayer?

It is permissible for a resident to pray behind a traveler, and the preponderant view is that it is not disliked. If a traveler leads residents in prayer for two rak'ahs, he should then say the taslim, and the residents should complete their prayer. It is recommended for the traveling imam to say after the two taslims, "Complete your prayer, for I am a traveler," to dispel any impression of forgetfulness or confusion about the number of rak'ahs. The evidence for its permissibility is the hadith of Imran ibn Husayn, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to pray two rak'ahs with the people of Makkah and say, "O people of Makkah, stand up and pray two more rak'ahs, for we are a traveling folk."
