The question

Is a young man's refusal to marry the one his parents chose for him – despite their desire for him to marry from among their relatives – considered disobedience to his parents? Does Allah Almighty become angry with him for this? Is he obligated to obey them and marry the one they want?

The answer

A young man is not obligated to marry a specific woman whom his parents command him to marry, if he does not desire her. However, he must obey them if they command him not to marry a specific woman, provided that there is a benefit for them in doing so, and it does not result in severe harm to him, or if their prohibition has a legitimate Shar'i reason.
