Is it permissible for me to obey my parents even in marrying someone I do not desire?
Righteousness towards parents is an obligation, and a Muslim should exert their utmost effort in being kind to them and seeking their رضا, as long as it does not involve disobedience to Allah. If the parents order their son to marry a woman he does not desire, he is not obligated to obey them in this matter. Rather, he should gently refuse and try to convince them. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said: "Parents do not have the right to compel their child to marry someone he does not want, and he would not be considered disobedient."
