What should I do about my parents' desire for me to marry another girl, and would my marriage to her be considered an act of righteousness toward them?

The rights of parents are great, and being dutiful and obedient to them is obligatory in what is good and permissible. However, a child is not obliged to obey them if they order him to marry someone he does not desire, and he would not be disobedient (aqq). Similarly, if he wishes to marry a woman of good character and faith, and they prevent him without a legitimate Shariah-compliant reason, he is not obliged to obey them, and this is not considered disobedience (aqq). Nevertheless, if no harm befalls the child in acceding to his parents' wishes, then doing so is an act of righteousness and kindness.
