What is the ruling on eating marine life, such as fish and other creatures, and is it true that it is impermissible to eat octopus?

All marine animals are permissible to eat, based on the Almighty's saying: "Permissible for you is game from the sea and its food, as provision for you and for travelers," and the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying regarding the sea: "Its water is pure, and its dead are permissible." However, the Prophet forbade every carnivorous animal with fangs and every bird with talons. We believe that the non-predatory octopus is permissible to eat, while the predatory one is a matter of dispute, and it is safer to avoid it except in cases of necessity.
